Cash from housing developers has paid for a new £33,000 playground in Cwmbran. The park is in the centre of Southville.

The money came from the developers who built homes on the site of the former Brookfield Primary School. It’s known as an S106 agreement- and is a legal agreement signed by house builders that sets out what extra work they will do in an area to help replace the loss of other facilities from new homes being built.

Cllr Mandy Owen, executive member for the environment, and Llantarnam ward councillors, Cllr Alan Slade and Cllr Dave Thomas, officially opened the park earlier this week.

Children can now enjoy playing on a small multi-play unit with a slide, two cradle swings, a basket swing, seesaw, and a roundabout. Parents and carers can watch their children play while relaxing on a new bench.

The equipment has been built on a rubberised safety surface. It’s enclosed by protective fencing with two safe gates.
