Look at that photo! Thirteen men grinning from ear to ear. As soon as it landed in my inbox I couldn’t wait to share it. Steve Roberts took the photo along with these others pics I shared on Facebook of Cwmbran Celtic FC veterans at their match against Nelson Cavaliers AFC.
They’re all aged over 50 but still turn out to play football and their faces show how much they still love it. The team won 2-1. I’m not sure if this photo was taken before or after the match but it doesn’t matter. I get the feeling they’d be smiling even if they lost. Getting together with friends and doing sport is one of the best things I loved about my teenage years- and these men are lucky enough to keep getting that feeling.
It’s the start of January so use this photo as a bit of inspiration for doing things that make you happy in 2025, no matter your age.
Business awards
This year will see the first Cwmbran Life Business Awards take place. I announced it on Facebook and had a great response. Now the work starts and getting things confirmed and agreed. As the post says they’re going to very different to a typical awards night.
I chatted to someone a few days ago and she suggested calling them a ‘celebration’- as the night will be about celebrating businesses with an NP44 postcode.
I’ll keep you updated on the awards (celebration) through this email newsletter.
Five of the best things from the last week
To put yourself in a good mood, it’s a good idea to write down things that have made you smile over the last few days. Here are some of the stories I enjoyed writing that you may have missed.
- I was invited to the funeral of John Swain. It was really touching and I’m glad I was able to share his family’s tribute on Cwmbran Life. Read the story here.
- ๐ช๐ผ I met Jordan and Abbie for a coffee to hear about their new triathlon coaching business. The pair came first and second in the last Cardiff Sprint Triathlon so konw their stuff. Read their story here.
- ๐๏ธ Llanyrafon Primary School sent me this article written by three pupils. It’s so good. I love the questions they asked their classmate. Read it on Facebook here.
- ๐๐ฝ I love Parkrun. It’s run by volunteers. I was so chuffed for them when I found out 297 people took part last Saturday (and I was one of them ๐ ) – a record since the 5km event started in Cwmbran in 2016 . Read the story here.
- ๐ณ Talking about doing things that make you happy. Getting outside and some fresh air is a brilliant way to put a smile on your place. I shared some photos here on Facebook of my walk last Sunday around Blaen Bran Community Woodland.
