Meet Cwmbran’s 105-year-old trolley collector. Yes, that’s a bit of tongue-in-cheek but wait until you read this story.
Owen Filer celebrated his 105th birthday in October 2024. He’s active and still gets on the bus and visits the town centre several times a week.
I saw him today walking into Cwmbran’s Lidl. He knew it was the last day before this store closes and the new one reopens on St David’s Road tomorrow.
He told me that as he walked off his bus in the town centre there was an abandoned Aldi trolley in front of him. So what would you have done? If it was me, the trolley would still be there.
But that’s not how Cwmbran’s famous centenarian lives his life. He explained how he pushed it back to Aldi on Woodside Road. If you don’t know the area, I’d guess that was a walk of around half a mile.
On arrival inside the store, he joked with a staff member that the next time he brings one of their trollies back he “wants a free bar of chocolate.” After his good deed, he headed to Lidl to do some shopping.
Imagine if every one of us did something like this every day.
