A netball club in Cwmbran held a ‘pie in the face’ fundraising day at a Cwmbran pub.
The Exiles spent last Saturday afternoon inviting people to take part in various events including darts and a raffle at the Mount Pleasant pub in Old Cwmbran. A highlight of the day was the pie in the face. People paid £2 and voted for who should have to take part. The list included players, committee members and pub staff. Club coach and Wales netball player Georgia Rowe had the pleasure of splatting the cream pies in each person’s face.
Lara Lear, from the Exiles, told Cwmbran Life: “Who would have thought being pied in the face and smelling for hours later would be so much fun. The sun shone, people came to the Mount to support us and the incredible charities we were raising money for. Everyone was smiling and laughing. The laughter was off the scale but that’s what we do here at Exiles Netball Club. We enjoy each other’s company so much that every day is fun and I’m so so proud of us all for an incredible day. Lots of preparation goes on in the background. I think it was worth it and an incredible job was done by all. We look forward to the next fun day.”
A total of £473 was raised and will be shared between the club (£236.50), the Alzheimer’s Society (£118.25) and the Motor Neurone Disease Association (£118.25). A spokesperson for the club said the two charities had been chosen as they were “close to our players’ hearts”.
