I like to think I’ve got a finger on the pulse of Cwmbran. So almost three months to the very day that Jungle Peri Peri opened in Cwmbran I finally popped in for a bite to eat.
Cwmbran Life- always first with the news . This is the second branch of the independently-owned restaurant and takeaway- with the other branch on Caerleon Road in Newport.
The Cwmbran branch is in the town centre’s bus station- in the old Greggs unit before the national chain moved a few doors down to what was Barclays.
We arrived during the pea-soup fog that landed on Cwmbran earlier this evening. I was feeling frosty and wanted a meal to warm me up inside.
I ordered a Cobra Burrito Wrap meal deal (comes with chips and a soft drink) and to raise my temperature I went a bit wild with a ‘mild’ dressing. You can choose from lemon and herb to mild up to extra hot or even lemon and lime.
I’ve been known to break into an embarrassing sweat with sweet chilli sauce so ‘mild’ was a brave move for me. It was so good with tender chicken and perfectly cooked spicy rice neatly packaged in a wrap. My tongue had a nice gentle ‘burn’ and my brow was just on the edge of an early sweat.
My wife chose a Tiger Pitta (peri peri chicken strips) meal deal. Like me, she gave it a double thumbs-up. The customer service was excellent. The food was served up in baskets at our table and the lighting, wall decorations, and background music all made for a nice relaxed atmosphere.
We were the only people sitting inside eating. It was around 8.15pm and a couple of delivery drivers popped in to collect orders for customers sat in their homes.
We had one dip and a side order of coleslaw. The bill came to £20.30 which felt like good value for money for the food and service we enjoyed with the bonus of not having any washing up do.
The main photo makes the Tiger Pitta look MASSIVE. I used the iPhone’s wide-angle lens so the perspective is all a bit stretchy. I finished all of my meal but my wife left a handful of chips, so no complaints about the portion sizes. I just wanted to explain the photo.
