Rose was asked to answer this question- You should vote for me in the Fairwater election because– and this is her answer

My name is Rose Seabourne and alongside Jayne Watkins I’m standing as one of Labour’s two candidates for Fairwater in next week’s Torfaen County Borough Council (TCBC) election.

My husband Phil and I have lived in Fairwater for over fifty years, bringing up our family and caring for our community. I spent much of my career as a swimming instructor, teaching adults and children and coaching the Torfaen Swim Squad, whilst working in Social Services.

I’m a founder member and currently a trustee of the Costar Partnership – a local charity that has served our Community for over twenty years and helped enormously during the pandemic, supplying school meals and emergency support packages via the foodshare scheme, as well as providing much needed financial and health advice. During lockdown, I joined the Cwmbran Sewing Group making scrubs and bags for our NHS, nursing homes and GP surgeries.

Rose and Phil along with Costar and friends and local Labour Cllrs put together the Santa sleigh run held for the first-time during the 2020 lock down when Santa visits was not an option in the usual venues.  This grew even bigger last Christmas covering the whole of the Cwmbran area bringing smiles to adults and children alike.

Over the last five years, I’ve served on the council as Scrutiny Chair for Education and Presiding Member chairing the Council and serving on other committees. If re-elected next week, I will work with Jayne and other colleagues in the Labour group to support families suffering thanks to the Tories’ cost-of-living crisis. This commitment to creating a fairer Torfaen is central to Labour’s local offer in this election.

I’m really enjoying working with Jayne, speaking to residents in Fairwater about the challenges they face, and what they expect of the council in the months to come. We’ll continue to work closely together to benefit our area, supporting our services – and our aim is to continue to work hard with our community for Fairwater.

We hope you will take time out to vote, and that you feel you can support your Labour Team at the ballot box on 5th May.
