Residents in Llanyrafon West elected a new community councillor last night (9 June 23).
Liam Boycott (Welsh Labour Party) went up against Cory Scriven (Welsh Conservative Party). The turnout was 17% and Mr Boycott won with 184 votes against Mr Scriven’s 141.
He will represent the ward on Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon Community Council.
In a blog post for Cwmbran Life before the election, Mr Boycott wrote: “The cost-of-living crisis continues to hit people across Llanyrafon. With the out of touch Tory government refusing to act, it is Labour Councillors that have led the way in opposing the Tories and taken proactive steps to ensure there is support available for local people.
“The Community Council has a strong record of activity within Llanyrafon; working with Gwent Police to make our streets safer; establishing a new orchard for people to enjoy; and supporting local sports clubs. I’m determined to carry on this good work as your representative, working with the community to improve play equipment and establish a community garden. “
