‘This is the icing on the cake’. Cwmbran writer publishes perfume book after blogging for eight years

Sam Scriven

A Cwmbran writer turned her love of perfumes into a career with the publication of a book on the subject.

Sam Scriven co-wrote The Perfume Companion with Sarah McCartney. The book is now on sale worldwide. The former Croesyceiliog School pupil lived in England after university for 11 years but returned when she had children.

She said: “There are so many things I love about living in Cwmbran, mainly the green spaces, the mountain, the canal, the river and all the brilliant amenities. I’ve got the best of both worlds as I can work remotely without leaving my beloved hometown. I started blogging about perfume when the kids were young. It was a way of keeping sane and remembering who I was. Eventually that led to freelancing full-time which led me to being asked to co-author The Perfume Companion. A passion became a profession

“I have been a perfume blogger since 2013 and have even twice been a finalist in the national Jasmine Awards for perfume writing. In 2018 I was approached by my friend and perfumer Sarah McCartney to co-author The Perfume Companion. The publication was delayed due to Covid, but the book is out now and will also be available worldwide, notably the USA, Canada, Australia and Europe.

“I have been a perfume blogger for eight years so this is the icing on the cake.”
