Torfaen Dolphins’ Meghan Willis finished in a season’s best time and came sixth in the final of S9 100m backstroke final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
In a video shared on the Team Wales Instagram page yesterday, the 18-year-old who was competing at her second Commonwealth Games, said she was “very happy” adding: “Especially after this morning. Kind of seeing where I’m at. Tonight was really good. The atmosphere was amazing. Everybody is there for each other. Small, tight-knit group, everybody is just so excited every time someone races. It was brilliant.
“I love representing Wales. It makes you feel like you’re kind of at home knowing that everybody in Wales is looking at you, and just inspiring all the younger girls who are looking up to me and other para swimmers is just amazing to do.”
Good luck to Meghan Willis and Theodora Taylor, who both compete this evening in swimming at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The pair both swim for Torfaen Dolphins and were selected for Team Wales along with their teammate Dylan Broom.
Theodora won a bronze last night as part of the Wales mixed 4 x 100m relay team. Later on today, she swims in the semi-final of the 100m freestyle hoping to qualify for tomorrow’s final.
Meghan is in the final of the 100m backstroke in the S9 category after qualifying in this morning’s heats.
The swimming heats and finals are being held at the city’s Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

A teenage swimmer from Torfaen Dolphins has won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Theodora Taylor, 17, is in Glasgow with Team Wales. Last night she was a member of the mixed 4 x 100m relay team who came third.
Tom Croke, head coach at Torfaen Dolphins and Team Wales coach, said: “It was an incredible evening. Brave, skillful and fast racing.”
She swam with Matt Richard, Dan Jones and Bex Sutton. Australia took gold setting a new Commonwealth Games record and England came second.
It was an extra special night for Wales. This was the only third relay medal won in the pool by Wales- adding to podium finishes in 2018 and 1970.

Torfaen Dolphins’ Theodora Taylor swims in the final of the 100m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games today. The 17-year-old qualified in yesterday’s heats. BBC Radio 5 Live’s John Hunt told co-presenter Karen Pickering, a former Team GB swimmer, that she has “swum beautifully this week.”
He said: “There’s no doubt Karen [Pickering] , that Theodora Taylor is catching so many eyes this week for Wales…this Welsh lady has got bags of talent and there’s going to be a chance to show it in [the final].
Karen Pickering, former Team GB swimmer,said: “Yes, she really is off the back of becoming European junior champion in the individual and the relay just a few weeks ago, wonderful anchor leg of that mixed freestyle team took Wales to the bronze medal.”
The final is in this evening’s session at Glasgow’s Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
