Torfaen pupils collect exam results

Pupils from six secondary school pupils across Torfaen collected their GCSE and Skills Challenge exam results today.

Among them were Gwenno Wood, from Ysgol Gymraeg Gwynllyw, who got 15 A*s, Lewis Merchant, from West Monmouth School who got 12 A*s and Tobias Dallimore, from Cwmbran High, who got 11 A*s.

Councillor Richard Clark, executive member for children, families and schools, said: “This is another fantastic set of results for Torfaen pupils following the A-Level results last week, especially coming off the back of the exam changes made during the pandemic.

“One of our County Plan priorities is to raise educational attainment, helping young people and adults to gain the qualifications and skills needed to lead positive lives.”

Cwmbran High School

In a tweet, the school said: “Two-thirds of our pupils achieved more than 5 qualifications at A*-C and 31 pupils gained 5 or more A/A* qualifications.”

Matthew Sims, headteacher of Cwmbran High, said: “Pupils have performed exceptionally well in many subjects with outstanding performances.

“We are extremely proud of all of our pupils and this is a great reflection of their hard work, commitment and dedication.”
