A Cwmbran teacher has died just five weeks after his fourth child was born.
Huw Llewellyn, aged 40, who taught at Fairwater High School, was diagnosed with cancer last Christmas. He had started treatment but caught an infection last week and was admitted to hospital.
After a week battling the infection he suffered a severe stroke and passed away peacefully last Sunday at 10pm.
Huw’s wife Carol said: “Our hearts are broken, but we are so proud of Huw and all that he has achieved in his life.”
A tribute on the school website says:
“Huw was a true professional, with a big heart who genuinely cared for the pupils of Fairwater High School. He was a kind and compassionate man who always put the interests of the children first. Huw will be sadly missed by his colleagues, pupils, parents and governors.”
He leaves behind three daughters, Alys (8), Seren (6), Lowri (3) and his newborn son, Ieuan (five weeks).
Tributes and photos are being shared on a Facebook page. Already over 1,400 people have liked the page and hundreds of comments have been posted.

Huw was the school’s Additional Learning and Educational Needs Co-ordinator (Alenco). His expertise meant pupils with additional support needs such as a disability, educational or emotional would get an individual support plan.
He would liaise with staff and parents and meet all the needs of the given child depending on what they required. Some of his pupils have left lovely tributes on the Facebook page.
