The 20th Abergavenny Food Festival took place over the weekend (15/16 September). The town is just 13 minutes on the train from Cwmbran and yet I’m ashamed to say it was my first ‘proper’ visit.

Saturday was one of the days you want to relive again and again. It was spent exploring over 250 stalls throughout the town.

We tasted and sipped our way through some of the best food and drink the UK has to offer. Stallholders were keen to show off and share samples and we were keen to try them.

A random chat in the gents toilets about a flat mobile phone battery led to a video interview with Imran Nathoo, a Masterchef 2017 finalist. We loved stopping and talking to the producers about their wares. The festival is a celebration of Real Food, Real Farmers and Real Chefs.

Fetsival tips

Wear a comfortable pair of shoes, don’t be shy and talk and ask the stallholders lots of questions. Oh, and wear a rucksask as it’s an easy way to carry all of the goodies you will pick up on your travels.

I’ve blocked out every weekend in September 2019 to make sure we don’t make the same mistake from the last 20 years of missing out on this wonderful event. I recommend you do the same.
