Cwmbran is now home to the sport of padel tennis.
The first dedicated padel tennis club in Wales has been built in Croesyceiliog. This weekend ( 30/31 January 2022) the team behind the club are inviting the community to book a slot and try out the sport. Saturday is fully booked but there are spaces on Sunday. Please email [email protected]. The club said you can pop along without booking but there may be a wait before you can play.
What is padel tennis?
The game is a mix of tennis and squash. There is a net in the middle of the court but players can play shots off the side and rear walls. It’s a game of skill, not power, which make it ideal for mixed abilities and ages to play together. Players can only serve underarm.
When the club is fully open to the public users will be able to book online and enter the court using their booking details. The courts are undercover so they can be used throughout the year in all-weather.
Visit Welsh Padel’s website for more information about the Cwmbran club.
We asked David Cornwell, chief executive of Padel Centres Ltd, to explain the rules of the sport in this video.
