Around 100 4×4 vehicles have been bought in the UK and driven out to Ukraine thanks to a Cwmbran business.
David and Ceri Carlyon run Welsh Connection, a ceramic and homeware business based on Springvale Industrial Estate. The pair travel around the UK at trade fairs. A few years they met a family from the Ukraine who run a similar business to theirs.
There is a shortage of 4×4 vehicles in Poland and Ukraine. The Carlyons were asked if they could help buy vehicles in the UK and get them across Europe.
So far the couple have spent £300,000 on behalf of a new charity in Europe and bought 100 4x4s, mainly Mitsubishis, and recruited volunteers to drive them to Ukraine.
Cwmbran Life visited Welsh Celebration where Dave spoke about how they got involved and found themselves at the centre of this big effort. On Friday (15 April) the spaces around their business were filled with 20 4×4 vehicles waiting for the arrival of volunteers to drive them to a ferry to cross the English Channel that evening.
