Eighteen months ago former Pontypool, Wales and British Lion player Graham Price started doing a weekly walk with his friend John ‘The Dentist’ Evans. It was during lockdown and started as just a way for the pair to exercise and catch up in the fresh air.

They would meet by the Olive Tree Cafe in Croesyceiliog and follow the Afon Lwyd downstream through Northfields before returning up the other side in Llanyrfafon. Clive Davis, former Newbridge and Wales player, heard about the walk and asked if he would join them with a friend.

More players heard about the walk and now a regular group of around a dozen, including several who played top-level rugby for Gwent clubs and a few who also played for Wales, meet at 10am every Thursday. This morning over 20 of them enjoyed a Christmas breakfast at the Olive Tree cafe.
