Ron Jones, the 100-year-old Newport war veteran, visited Cwmbran High School today. He shared his incredible story with year nine pupils.
Ellie Rogers, said: “We really enjoyed our assembly this morning, especially because of our visitor Ron Jones. He served in World War Two. When he was 18 he was captured by the Germans and taken all around Europe. He still remembers the small details like the dates and who his friends were. We are eternally grateful for his act of bravery.”
Cerys Thomas, said: “His story meant so much to me and I think everyone in the hall as well. His story had a big impact on the pupils because he had an experience that not many people could have. He’s 100 years old and remembers every detail which makes it more extraordinary.”
Mrs Adams, deputy head of year nine, said: “We were really pleased to welcome Ron to school this morning to talk to year nine. They were really interested in listening to his stories of his time in Auschwitz as a prisoner of war. It was a very rewarding and emotional experience for all of us.”
