A spokesperson for Y Lolfa press in Tal y Bont, Ceredigion said: “The original Cofiwch Tryweryn mural was painted by Meic Stephens, a writer and academic, as a reaction to the drowning of the village of Capel Celyn near Bala in the 1960s. As a result of the damage, young people rebuilt and repainted the wall in Llanrhystud and a new wave of support appeared to celebrate our history and identity as walls appeared across Wales and the world this year.

“In the book, there are 32 images of walls across Wales with accompanying stories which tell why and how these individuals have been inspired.”

Pupils and staff from the school worked together to paint the mural in May. The pupils have also been working on projects based on the history of Tryweryn Valley and Nerys Griffiths Jones from the school said that parents and new pupils have shown a great deal of interest in the mural and have enjoyed learning about the event.

She said: “The mural is something very special for us in Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbran and it will be there for a very long time.”
