A recruitment company is planting a new oak tree in Cwmbran for every candidate it successfully places in a role
Cardiff-based Yolk Recruitment will put the saplings in Blaen Bran Community Woodland. The woodland above Upper Cwmbran is run and maintained by a local community group.
The scheme forms part of the company’s drive to champion social responsibility through its ‘Yolks in Cloaks’ initiative, where staff members become superheroes by suggesting ideas that will help give back to the wider community.
Yolk’s Oaks is the brainchild of Nici Jones and Gareth Jones who head up Yolk’s newly launched Public Sector and Not-For-Profit team. The team was established to support public sector organisations across the UK with recruitment solutions.
Nici Jones, Director of Yolk’s Public Sector & Not-for-Profit division, explained: “Yolk’s Oaks is all about striving to ensure that Wales’ beautiful nature spots and greenery continue to grow. It means that while our day-to-day work as recruiters helps the business landscape to bloom, so will the natural environment.
“We want to play our part in tackling the climate crisis, which is one of the biggest challenges facing Wales and the world today. Planting new trees has been proven to be an effective way to fight the current crisis and helps us in the journey to stabilise our climate.
“Thanks to this new campaign, our clients can enjoy the warm glow of helping to protect the planet while finding the best available talent for their teams. Not only are they growing their organisations, but together we are helping to grow Wales.”
David Williams, chair of Blaen Bran Community Woodland group, said: “We are delighted to work with Yolk Recruitment to plant a new oak tree for every new candidate they place. The vital work we do to protect and maintain this cherished community woodland is only possible thanks to our volunteers’ hard work. Yolk’s support and funding of our tree-planting work will make a massive difference to the woodland, the local environment, and the ongoing battle against climate change.
“As well as helping us all through cleaning our air, planting trees also means we’re creating more dense nature spots, providing extra space and home for the diverse wildlife within the area to flourish.”
