A Cwmbran teenager is raising money for St David’s Hospice Care by abseiling off Newport’s famous landmark, the Transporter Bridge.
Trystan Hughes turned 15 last October and wanted to do “something special and adventurous to raise money for charity.”
He said: “I also have a slight dislike to heights so I thought what a great idea to combine the two. Not only will I be raising money for a great charity but I will be challenging myself at the same time.”
This Saturday (17 April 2021) Trystan will be climbing the 287 steps to the top of the bridge before abseiling 54 metres back to the ground.
He said: “My mum did the same abseil about 4 or 5 years ago for the same charity and she told me about all of the amazing work they do and how beneficial they are to the families they support. I have been excited for months about doing this event but as the day draws nearer the nerves are starting to creep in but overall I can’t wait.
“I have raised money for charities in the past where I have walked over the top of the Transporter Bridge but never anything as adventurous as this before.”
When he is 16 he hopes to do a skydive and raise money for an autism charity on behalf of his brother who has autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
