Shoppers arriving at Fairwater Shops this morning could be forgiven for thinking they were in a dream and had woken up in a new town.
A number of the shops have had new signs put above their door to place them in the fictional town of Dambury. Channel 4 is using the centre as a location for filming a new six-part series called Generation Z, due out in 2024. Filming for the six-part horror comedy series began a few weeks ago, with part of Cwmbran Stadium car park being used for parking. The crew were in Farlays for around a week and used a house for filming and another couple of homes for the cast to get ready. Scenes will also be filmed in Llanyravon, Fairwater, Coed Eva, Ponthir and Pontypool.
Co-Star, the dry cleaners and Premier are some of the shops that have new signs. Co-Star is Dambury Town Hall and Frankins Hardware store is The Old Curiosity Shop. Even the community noticeboard has been changed and now features the logo for Dambury Town Council.
The Forge production company is contacting businesses and residents close to where filming is due to take place, and any information about potential traffic disruption will be shared in advance. Two thirds of the series, written and directed by Ben Wheatley is being shot in Torfaen. The series tells the story of a mysterious military convoy that crashes outside a retirement home and turns the residents into zombies.
