Jason O’Connell, Independent is the new councillor to represent residents in the Llantarnam Ward.
He won today’s election which was held following the resignation of Cllr Nick Jones. Polls closed at 10pm this evening and ballot boxes from four polling stations in the area were brought to Court Farm & Oakfield Community Centre for the count.
The result was announced by Stephen Vickers, Torfaen Council’s chief executive and the count’s returning officer
The turnout was 22.4% (1,173 votes) and the full results were:
- David Bolton- Welsh Labour: 406 votes
- Miles Cook- Welsh Liberal Democrats: 13 votes
- Philip Davies- Green Party: 69 votes
- Jason O’Connell- Independent: 489 votes
- Stephen Senior- Welsh Conservative Party: 85 votes
- Matthew Woolfall-Jones- Plaid Cymru- The Party of Wales: 111 votes
