Nathan Edmunds is the Welsh Conservative candidate for Torfaen in the 2024 general election.
He explains why he is standing and why he thinks you should vote for him.
Nathan said: “The Labour Party slogan for this general election is ‘Change’, and I agree.
“Torfaen has been taken for granted for far too long by the Labour Party and this complacency has led to a lack of investment and drive in our area, which has seen schools being placed into special measures and our health board being placed under enhanced monitoring.
“Instead, essential funding has been diverted to pet projects, such as the 20mph rollout, taking billions of pounds out of the Welsh economy.
“The latest Estyn report for the overall education system here in Torfaen concluded their summary with ‘Torfaen is a local authority causing significant concern’.
“Our children deserve the best start in life and the poor education they’re currently receiving is a huge unnecessary obstacle for them to overcome, heading into further education and a global workforce.
“Some people may be thinking about voting for Reform, looking for change, but I believe that the party only exists to inflate the egos and bank balances of the two main shareholders of Reform UK Party Ltd—Nigel Farage and Richard Tice.
“They have no interest in improving the lives of people in Torfaen, and the only vote for meaningful change, is a vote for someone who was born here, grew up here, and lives here in the community. I understand the long-standing issues that need to be addressed.
“Our world is also facing new challenges, and challenges that I’m at the forefront of, and can lead with experience.
“I have spent the last 27 years working in the renewable energy sector, designing wind farms, solar farms, and battery energy storage projects across the world and now I’m also moving into new technologies such as hydrogen energy, which is important as a future clean energy source.
“In Torfaen we can be at the forefront of newer technologies, bringing more skilled, high paid jobs to the area, to ensure we have the skilled workforce to face the economic challenges of the 21st century.
“Many of us have grown up in the area and have just got used to the way things are, but we can do so much better, for us and our children.
“Torfaen needs change, and I will work tirelessly to deliver the changes we all need.”
There are eight candidates standing for Torfaen in the 2024 General Election.
