A REGISTERED nurse has been given the green light to open a clinic offering botox and other treatments from her garage.
Emma Morgan applied for change of use planning permission for the garage to be used as a medical aesthetics clinic offering treatments, including facials, botox and fillers.
Some neighbours had objected to the conversion of the garage, in Queen Street, Griffithstown, Pontypool as they feared pressure on parking and potential increased noise.
But Torfaen Borough Council planning officer Caroline Pulley said as the business will only employ Ms Morgan who lives at Windsor Road, backing on to her garage, it would only have a limited impact.
Conditions imposed also limit its opening hours to a maximum of three days a week, as suggested by Ms Morgan, and only between 9am and 6pm with no Sunday opening allowed.
Information supplied to the planning department also confirmed only one client will be treated at a time and it will operate on an appointment-only basis while there is unrestricted on -treet parking and a council owned car park nearby.
The planning report stated while such businesses should normally be based in town centres “the small scale of the proposal would not undermine the vitality or viability” of local shopping centres.
Ms Pulley also said its scale meant fears over noise and parking were unfounded with just over half the garage to be used for the clinc, with the remainder continuing to be used as household storage space by Ms Morgan who said it isn’t currently used for parking.
The report stated: “Given the sole operation of the business on a part-time basis and the limited space afforded by the rear part of the garage, it is unlikely that vehicle movements and customer activity of the scale of use proposed by this application would have harmful noise and disturbance impacts on neighbouring residents.”
No external alterations will be made to the garage and neither is any specialised equipment required while a new door for the clinic will be behind the existing metal roller shutter.
