A darts club is being set up in Cwmbran for players aged from eight to sixteen.
Richard Copeman and Graham Kinsella are launching Cwmbran Junior Darts later this month to encourage young players into the sport.
They will use the large function room at Cwmbran Rugby Club each week and support new and existing players to improve their skills
Graham said: “We’ve been playing darts down here for 20-odd years and given the interest in darts at the moment, it’s huge and the younger ages are getting interested in it.
“We’ve purchased six complete set-ups, so boards, lights, the full works. We’ll have the six set-ups in the big room.”
‘Have a bit of fun’
A recent post on Facebook attracted emails from 54 parents.
He added: “We just want to get everybody involved, learn how to play and have a bit of fun.
“It’s really important for their maths as well. It develops those maths skills. Give them a focus on something. A set of darts is £15 so it’s not going to break the bank for them either. It’s affordable.
“We’ll have darts they can borrow.
“Let’s try something and provide an opportunity for the kids to have a go at it. Who knows? We could have the next Luke Littler in the club.
‘Picking up new skills’
“It’s about participation, getting involved, having fun, enjoying it and picking up new skills. At the end of the night if everyone walks out of here with a big smile on their face and they want to come back next week our job’s done.
Richard said: “At Christmas time we were up at a darts tournament in Pontnewydd and the amount of kids who were there, it was great to see.
“You had 14-year-olds beating adults, good darts players. It’s all about having a bit of fun, making mates, and getting to talk to people.”
