FUNDING still needs to be found for a 3G sports pitch at Cwmbran High School, a top councillor has confirmed.
Cllr Richard Clark, who is Torfaen Borough Council’s cabinet member for education, announced in December the school is planning to replace its all-weather redgra sports pitch with the soft, artificial grass.
At the December meeting the Labour cabinet member said plans for the 3G pitch were “already in hand” but had said council officers were in talks with the school and funding bodies over applying for grants to cover the cost of the replacement for the clay and limestone gravel surface.
At the council’s March meeting Reform UK councillor for Llantarnam, David Thomas, asked for an update and when construction is likely to begin.
Cllr Clark said officers and the school are “still in the process of trying to secure funding and given that I’m not in a position to answer the second part of the question as to when construction will start.”
The Croesyceiliog councillor said officers would continue to keep the school and local councillors “informed of when that funding is secured” and of a construction date.
