There was a party atmosphere by the Afon Lwyd in Cwmbran last Saturday (12 April) as boys from Llanyrafon FC held a fundraising.
Their parents and coaches organised a ‘River Relay’ to raise money for their summer tour to a football tournament in Devon.
Groups of players from under 7s to under 13s walked and ran loops from Woodland Road in Croesyceiliog along the river path and up the other side past Llanyrafon Skate Park.
They set up a camp with tables, chairs, gazebos, picnic blankets and BBQs to keep each player fed and watered.
‘It’s a win-win’
Luke Simmonds, one of the coaches, said: “We wanted to do some team building as well as fundraising. We’ve had months of building up to it. We set up the BBQs, we set up the picnic area for the kids. It’s the first year we’ve done it and already we’re talking about doing it again next year.
“It’s been a huge success. The kids are smiling. The kids are getting some fun activity, fitness and contributing to their own tour so it’s a win, win. It’s just about having fun and raising some money.”
