A Cwmbran man with Athertoid cerebral palsy is raising money to transform his garden.

William Spanswick, 39, has launched a GoFundMe.

Victoria Watkins, William’s mum, said: “He is well known in the community, volunteers at the British Heart Foundation in town. He is an active member of Noddfa Church, Abersychan.

“We are raising funds for his sensory garden to improve William’s independence and quality of life. We just need to get his garden fully accessible for him to enjoy.”

She said he’s lived in the bungalow for 16 years and in the past had got “great pleasure” from growing potatoes and runner beans in buckets.

But she said they wanted to help get him “a lovely garden to give him more pleasures” and include raised beds and an accessible shed.

On his fundraising page, William said: “…I’d love to have it all patioed with some fab raised beds to grow veg and flowers and some for my special needs nephews to enjoy.

“I’m very independent but rely on care with all my daily living needs, but with help, I can do some pottering and gardening on my own. I would be most grateful for any donations towards this project that enhance my quality of life.”
