Thirty energy‑efficient, affordable apartments for rent will be built in Newport by Bron Afon Community Housing.

The new building on Kelvedon Street will include 22 one‑bed and eight two‑bed apartments, all designed to achieve A‑rated Energy Performance Certificate rating.

Construction is being carried out by MVR Solutions. The project is supported by Newport City Council and the Welsh Government, and includes grant funding.

The homes should be ready for new tenants to move in by December 2027. They will be available to rent through Home Options, Newport’s local housing register.

Steve Blake, Bron Afon’s executive director of development and regeneration, said, “We are really pleased to be building new homes in Kelvedon Street, our first project in Newport, with our partners, MVR Solutions.

“It aligns with our priority to build high-quality, affordable and energy-efficient homes in Southeast Wales, and will be followed by several other projects we have in the pipeline for the area.”

Catherine Love, Bron Afon’s chief executive, said, “It’s our ambition to increase the supply of social housing through sustainable development and regeneration.

“We understand how a safe, warm and comfortable place to call home is at the heart of anyone’s health and wellbeing, so I am delighted that we are building these energy-efficient and sustainable new homes in Newport.”

It’s Bron Afon’s first scheme in the city and only their second project outside Torfaen, following their homes in Brynhoward Terrace, Oakdale.
