WORK to build homes on a former supermarket site could soon begin as details over how construction will be managed have been provided.
Monmouthshire Housing Association and partners Hale Group are to develop 29 homes at the site of the former Lidl supermarket at Woodside Road in Cwmbran.
A condition of the planning permission, granted in November 25, is that a construction environmental management plan, known as a CEMP, is provided and approved in writing by Torfaen Borough Council, as the local planning authority, before construction work can get underway.
The plan is intended to ensure construction doesn’t harm the amenities of neighbours and that air quality is protected. It also sets out construction methods and site and traffic management and details of existing trees and hedgerows and how they will be protected and steps to prevent pollution.
Torfaen’s planning department has approved the application and stated there have been no objections from its highways department and the plan has also been reviewed by its environmental protection team who have accepted the proposals to control nuisances.
In August, Monmouthshire Housing Association said it expected demolition and construction to begin within six to eight weeks with an estimated “build programme” of 78 weeks.
