Burglars targeted a scout hut in Cwmbran, stealing a “number of items” and wrecking its fire exit door.
Leaders from the 1st Pontnewydd Scouts said the theft happened overnight at their hut on Fields Avenue on Monday 13 July to Tuesday 14 July. They have launched a fundraiser and are appealing to the community and local businesses to help replace items and repair the damage.
Sophie Edwards, from the 1st Pontnewydd Squirrels, said: “It has been incredibly upsetting for our volunteers and the young people who call our Scout Group home.
“Our group is run by a small team of volunteers who provide sessions for Squirrels (4 – 6 year olds), Beavers (6 – 8 year olds), Cubs (8 – 10 year olds), and Scouts (11 – 14 year olds).
“Despite this setback, we’re determined not to let it stop us from providing fantastic opportunities for our young people.
“We’re reaching out to our amazing local community to ask for your support. If any business could donate building materials, a replacement fire door, security equipment, or professional services, we’d love to hear from them.”
