Croesyceiliog School pupils ‘walk a mile’ to support World Polio Day

Pupils from Croesyceiliog School walked a mile to raise money for World Polio Day.

The school’s Interact Club, a group of pupils and staff who volunteer for a variety of community projects inside and outside school, met at Cwmbran Boating Lake yesterday with Henllys Rotary Club and walked a mile. The club then arranged for 240 pupils in year seven to walk a mile today around the school’s site. In total they raised £158 for the campaign.

End Polio Now is the Interactors’ international project for this year. Earlier this year they planted purple flowers in Oakfield Gardens to highlight a worldwide campaign to eradicate the world of polio. The volunteers regularly visit the gardens to maintain it.

Pritti Davies, a teacher at the school who helps run the Interact Club, said: “They all received a presentation last week on what Polio is and why it is important that it is eradicated. The students were in good spirits for their walk and raised a further £25.”
