An office block in Cwmbran can be converted into 12 apartments.
Torfaen Council has given permission for a change of use of Stadium House on Oldbury Road in Old Cwmbran.
The application is for eight two-bedroom apartments and four one-bedroom apartments.
A 4.2m x 4m metre extension will be built on the side of the building for a fire escape/stair block. The applicant will landscape the gardens with raised planters and hedgerows.
The council’s education service raised a concern that Llantarnam Primary School, the catchment school for the area, is currently oversubscribed with 328 pupils with a capacity of 315.
The report says: “The Education Officer has stated that there is currently capacity in the secondary school and none in the primary school serving this site.
“Given the expected limited increase in the number of pupils generated by the development and the information submitted with regard to the viability of the proposal, in this case, the benefits of bringing this building back into use, combined with the advantages of providing much needed sustainable housing, outweigh the need to secure such obligations.”
The building will be finished in render with larch timber cladding on the first floor and grey UPVC. windows.
A bin store and cycle store will also be included in the development.
