Dave and Alan were asked to answer this question- You should vote for us in the Llantarnam election because– and this is their answer.
Over the past five years it has been an honour and a privilege to represent everyone in the Llantarnam ward as their Torfaen County Borough Councillors. We are sure you will agree that these years have not been easy for any of us, but we have worked hard as a team to make a difference in our ward.
Every year since we were elected, we have been displaying poppies on lamp posts to show our community’s respect and support for our armed services and every Christmas we have delivered a Christmas card to you to ensure that you have our contact details.
At the last election we promised to tackle litter, improve play facilities, and tackle speeding and we have delivered on our promises. We have:
- Installed lots of new litter bins
- Improved parking facilities on Llewellyn Road
- Improved the children’s play park in Oakfield Flower Gardens
- Installed a new disabled access onto Cwmbran Drive from Fields Road
- Arranged for a new bus shelter near the supported living accommodation at Ty Cae Nant
- Achieved various road & footpath resurfacing projects
- Formed a Community Speed Watch group
- Established a community foodbank to help families in need
We have also been working hard to deliver:
- A new children’s play area in Southville
- The 4g pitch development which will not only provide a much-needed sports facility but hopefully resolve the parking issues at our community primary school
- A community allotment / orchard in Oakfield
- Improvements to the footpath between Llantarnam Road & Burtons biscuits
We have successfully campaigned against the development of the open space off Brangwyn Avenue, helped local businesses with planning issues and access to Covid grants and helped residents on any number of concerns including blue badges, bus passes and housing issues.
We have always made ourselves accessible by holding regular surgeries at Cwmbran Library, through social media and we remind everyone of our contact details by distributing Christmas cards. Given the challenges presented by the pandemic and the Council’s limited resources we are proud of what we have managed to achieve for our community so far.
There is, however, much more that needs to be done and we need your vote to help us continue to make Llantarnam an area that we can all be proud to live in.
