A disability football tournament is being held in Cwmbran thanks to the town’s newest team.

Llanyrafon FC’s disability football team started up last summer. The ages range from 12 to early 40s and is mixed with male and female players.

Around 16-20 teams from across south Wales are expected at the club’s playing fields on Sunday 2 March.

Marcus Hall, the team’s coach, told Cwmbran Life: “We are all set up and have got our first tournament. All the teams from the area, under 16s upwards, will be there.

“It will be like a fete fun day. That’s the plan of attack. Hopefully, we will have our new kits by then. They [the players] are over the moon. It’s been hard work, don’t get me wrong. We are getting there slowly.

“Llany FC have been as good as gold with sorting things out. We’re moving in the right direction. It’s a stepping stone.”

Marcus thinks it’s the first football tournament for people with disabilities to be held in Torfaen. He asked if anyone can provide inflatables for free, and charge users, to get in touch.

The first match will be at 11am and the tournament will end at around 3pm.
