Food banks across Torfaen are being encouraged to apply for a new funding programme from the Asda Foundation.

The Foodbank Fundamentals Fund offers grants of up to £1,000 to help food banks purchase essential supplies and equipment needed to support local communities.

Funding can be used for a wide range of items, including food and baby formula, toiletries, nappies and baby wipes, as well as larger purchases such as fridges, freezers, shelving and storage containers. The fund can also help cover fuel costs for delivering food to people who may be isolated or unable to travel.

To be eligible, organisations must have:

  • An annual income of £250,000 or less
  • Governing documents in place
  • A safeguarding policy for children
  • A bank account in the organisation’s name that can accept cheques

Applications must be submitted by 10am on 22 September.

Food banks interested in applying can find full details and the application form on the Asda Foundation website.
