Reneè Chivers was a teacher at Ponthir Church in Wales Primary School on the day it opened in 1975.
She was one of the special guests at an event to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary.
She was there with Emlyn Powell, who was deputy head from 1979 to 1982.
Mrs Chivers taught in Llanfrechfa School and then moved to the newly built Ponthir School. She told Cwmbran Life: “What do I love about it? I can’t begin to tell you how much I love about it. To think that I’m still living in the same village and I’ve seen the children grow up to be parents. I can’t believe it.”
Mr Powell said: “I came here as deputy head in 1979 until 1982. I was the baby here though because they all arrived from the old school [Llanrechfa] and came here. Very welcoming. Such a lovely community and it was a wonderful experience for me. I became a head myself then up in Monmouth.”
