WORK to convert a former Post Office into a coffee shop and five flats could start next month.
Details of a construction management plan for the conversion of the former Post Office at Windsor Road in Griffithstown, Pontypool have been provided to Torfaen Borough Council.
It granted Robert Facey change of use planning permission to use the ground floor as a coffee shop and convert the existing flat into five flats in July last year with a condition a construction management plan be submitted to the council for approval.
The plan shows work could start on Wednesday, May 28, with a completion date to be agreed, and working hours from 7.30an to 5.30pm on Mondays to Fridays and from 8am until 1pm on Saturdays.
The report states the first half hour of each day will be used for preparation and machines will not start until 8am while in the “unlikely event” the site has to remain open past 5.30pm the site manager will inform the council of the reason and the time it will close and will remain on site until closing to “ensure that noise and disruption is kept to a minimum”.
It is intended the lower ground floor will house a one-bedroom flat, the ground floor the coffee shop and a one-bedroom flat with the first floor divided into two one-bedroom flats. The attic floor would also be used as a one-bedroom flat and the courtyard used for a garden, cycle parking and bin storage.
