A NEW finance chief is in place at Torfaen Borough Council ahead of the retirement of the authority’s deputy chief executive.
Andrew Lovegrove has been appointed as the strategic director for resources and the post also includes the role of section 151 officer – the top financial officer responsible for ensuring the council has a balanced budget, currently held by Nigel Aurelius.
He is retiring this year having worked in local government for 45 years and as well as being the the finance chief is the deputy to chief executive Stephen Vickers who it was agreed, earlier this year, would also take on the role of chief executive of neighboruing Blaenau Gwent council on a trial basis.
Mr Lovegrove’s salary band is £93,776 to £102,000 a year. He isn’t going to succeed Mr Aurelius as the deputy chief executive, with no decision having been made as yet on the future of that post.
He was introduced to councillors at Torfaen Borough Council’s September meeting, at the Civic Centre, Pontypool, and the council had held an appointment committee meeting in July.
