Oliver Baggott was given the Special Recognition Award for Exceptional Bravery at Cwmbran Community Council’s Community Awards.
The event was held on Friday 6 March in the Parkway Hotel. This was read out as he collected his award
“This award recognises an act of extraordinary bravery shown by someone very young, but incredibly courageous.
“Last October, during a Bonfire Night fireworks display, a firework unexpectedly shot towards the crowd. In that moment of danger, Oliver reacted instantly. Without hesitation, he moved to protect his younger sister, pushing her out of harm’s way and shielding her from the firework.
“In doing so, Oliver placed himself directly in danger and suffered burns, but his quick thinking and selfless actions ensured his little sister was kept safe.
“His bravery, instinct to protect others, and remarkable maturity in such a frightening situation have inspired everyone who has heard his story.
“Oliver’s actions are a powerful reminder that true courage is not about age, it’s about character. It is our honour to recognise that bravery tonight.”
