PLANS for two new homes on an overgrown area of wasteland have been given the green light by planners.

A planning application for outline permission, which means more detailed plans will still have to be approved through a further application, has been approved for land next to numbers 21 and 22 Stanley Road in Garndiffaith, Pontypool.

When the application was submitted in March applicants R Dibble and J Dibble said in a planning statement that the site was occupied by two semi-detached homes that were demolished in 1962.

They stated planning permission had twice been granted for two homes on the site 1989 and most recently 2019 but that permission has since expired.

Torfaen Borough Council planning officer Mia McAndrew said in her report, which approved the application, satellite images indicate the semi-detached homes were demolished at least 24 years ago.

But she said the area is within Torfaen’s defined “urban boundary” where there is a presumption in favour of development and close to the centre of Abersychan where there are shops, medical facilities and a pharmacy and is also on a bus route and near Garnteg School making it a sustainable location.

Five objections were received which raised concerns over access which Ms McAndrew said could be resolved when the reserved matters are considered as could concerns regarding overlooking as design will also be considered as part of the next application.
