People taking waste and recycling to Torfaen Council’s centre in New Inn will soon be asked to show proof of address before being allowed in.

The council is bringing in the checks due to incidents where residents who don’t live in the county have been using the site, increasing costs and queue times

From Monday 1 September, everyone will be asked to show proof of address.

Visitors will need to show a valid form of identification that confirms their address, such as:

  • A driver’s licence
  • A recent utility bill
  • A council tax bill

Councillor Sue Morgan, executive member for sustainability and waste, said: “We want to make sure our recycling centre is available for the people it’s intended for – Torfaen residents.

“Reintroducing ID checks will help us manage demand more effectively and improve the experience for everyone using the site.”

“Residents are encouraged to have their driver’s license or other ID ready when visiting the centre to help keep things moving smoothly.”
