Residents asked for views on double yellow lines on road in Oakfield to stop parents using it as drop-off area for local primary school

Residents living on a road in Oakfield are being asked for their views on double yellow lines being painted outside their homes.

Torfaen Council plans to build a new footpath as a shortcut across the former Llantarnam comprehensive school’s playing fields to encourage parents and children to walk or cycle to Llantarnarm Community Primary School.

If the proposed parking restrictions are approved it will stop the stretch of road being used as a drop-off and pick-up area once the new path is complete.

A Torfaen Council spokesperson said: “We are constructing a new walking and cycling path to Llantarnam community primary school along the side of the recreation ground from Court Farm Road. This will provide a shortcut direct route for many people on the Oakfield estate. We will also be developing routes more broadly in the Oakfield area. The inclusion of the waiting/parking restrictions is a result from analysing the residents’ feedback from the recent consultation drop-in events held during the summer.

“The proposed double yellow line restrictions along a section of Court Farm Road is to prohibit parking at and beyond the new school walking/cycling entrance are included ensure the safety of pupils, pedestrians and all highway users in this area.

“The houses on this section of Court Farm Road are all on the same side of the road and residents currently all park on one side. As the proposed restrictions and path entrance are on the opposite side of the road, they should not affect the current parking practice and this was confirmed by the residents we spoke to at the consultation.

“We have now written to all local residents living in the vicinity of the proposed restrictions providing them with informal advance notice of this proposal and invited feedback. Following this period, the council will commence the statutory legal process to introduce waiting restrictions which includes posting public notices of the proposal and a formal consultation period.”
