DJ Daryll Barnby’s took his Bingo Barningo event to the White Hut in Cwmbran

Back in the early 1980s my Grandma Jean used to take me to a toy shop in town (Shorts) and buy me a Paul Daniels magic trick every Saturday morning.

The payoff was I had to sit through her smoke-filled bingo session that afternoon in the hall behind Scene 123.

She passed away far too early but the memories are vivid. Last Friday I was at a bingo night that I’m sure she would’ve loved even though every traditional bingo rule was broken.

Like most grandmas of the 80s she was always up for a bit of fun.

Bingo Barningo

Life is for laughing. DJ Daryll Barnby’s Bingo Barningo is off-the-scale bingo and fun.

He brought his set to the White Hut community hall last night. The only similarity to my grandma’s favourite game was the bingo card and the felt tip pen.

Add a lot of music, dancing, singing, laughing, some quick one-liners, a toilet roll, a steak, and American Pie III, into the mix and you’ll get my drift. Well, to be honest, you won’t from that explanation. You have to experience it, not just be told about it.

The games brought everyone in the room together in such a lovely way. I spoke to loads of people I didn’t know.

Grandma Jean, you would’ve smashed the bum shuffle race but that would have got you kicked out of your bingo hall!

It was brilliant having a few hours among people who just wanted to let themselves go for a few hours before the weekend disappeared and Monday came along.

Cheers Darryl 🙂
