“Alison, can you hold my steamed-up glasses so I can take a photo of them?” I know how to treat my wife over dinner.
Chickaros Cwmbran opened last month and we visited tonight for a meal. More about why my glasses were steamy later.
Chickaros Cwmbran is a place that wants you to take photos of your food and yourself. The wall has a large fluorescent blue slogan in a neat font saying ‘Hello Cwmbran’, floral displays draped down from the ceiling and wall. They’re begging for the perfect selfie to be taken in front of them.
‘My reading glasses’
👓 My reading glasses were safely resting on my head as our meals arrived.
Anything above mild (sweet chilli sauce, brown sauce 🤦🏻♂️ etc) warms me up and I often break out into a sweat.
My grilled chicken parmesan with a creamy house sauce, coleslaw and chips (£14) hit all my spots perfectly. Looked great on the plate and most importantly, was delicious in my mouth.
I tucked in enjoying every mouthful, dipping the chips in the mayonnaise and having little bits of coleslaw in between forkfuls of meat to help me cool down.

I brought down my glasses to read a bit of my newspaper and my view was blurred by steam (ok, sweat) so I had to stop my wife eating to hold up my glasses. How am I married?
My wife went for a mixed meat kebab, a mix of doner and grilled chicken with coleslaw, onions and peppers (£16). It was BIG. She loved it and tucked in. Before she had her first mouthful she said she was glad she spotted other customers getting takeout boxes.
As we chatted (and read), I dreamed of tomorrow’s lunch of pitta bread and meat with the Turkish salad my wife had Googled. Yes, we were going to head to Asda to pick up some breads to enjoy a “free” meal tomorrow. The packed takeout box will definitely feed us both tomorrow. What a lovely bonus 🙂
🍽️ My plate was left empty. I quickly forked and ate the remaining chips on my wife’s plate as she scraped the best bits into the box for tomorrow.
I wasn’t brave enough to take a “Hello Cwmbran” selfie. And to be honest, how could any photo to capture tonight’s meal top the perfectly framed shot of my specs?
My total bill was £34.90 including two diet cokes (£2.45 each).
