RSPCA Cymru has launched an appeal for information after two pigeons and a squirrel were found dead in Pontypool Park, with officers treating the circumstances as suspicious.

The bodies were discovered on Sunday 19 April on posts near the river and were seen by several members of the public.

RSPCA Deputy Chief Inspector Gemma Black said the incident had understandably caused concern.

She said: “This must have been really distressing for members of the public to see in Pontypool Park this weekend. We’re not sure exactly what the circumstances are here, but from what we know we share concerns with the members of the public as it has been reported that these animals could have been harmed deliberately.”

Anyone who can help is asked to call the RSPCA Inspectorate Appeal Line on 0300 123 8018, quoting incident number 01781951.

DCI Black added: “We would encourage everyone to show kindness to wildlife. We share our space with a variety of wild animals. Every kind of animal deserves our care and respect.”

The RSPCA says rising cruelty, neglect and large‑scale rescues have put pressure on its centres, and it is urgently looking for loving homes for animals in its care. More information is available at rspca.org.uk/findapet.
