The Russia rugby team coach is the guest speaker at a charity dinner in Cwmbran. Kingsley Jones, who won ten caps for Wales, including one as captain, in the mid 1990s is helping to raise money for the Welsh Charitables RFC and the Mayor of Torfaen charity appeal. During his career he played for several teams including Ebbw Vale and Pontypridd. Nowadays as well as helping the Russian rugby team he is a regular pundit on BBC’s Scrum V.
The dinner is on Friday 20 April at Greenmeadow Golf Club. Tickets cost £35 a head and include a five course dinner. For tickets call Chris Slade at Torfaen Council on 01495 762200.
David Power, secretary of the Welsh Charitables RFC, said: “Kingsley is a cracking speaker so a night of laughs will be guaranteed. Guests will hear him talk about his career playing in the valleys as well as his more unusual current job as the Russian rugby team coach. As usual there will be a good crowd of former Welsh internationals at this popular annual dinner.”
Kingsley’s dad, Phil, is Jonah Lomu’s former manager. Money raised on the night will be shared between the Mayor’s three charities, Cancer Research Wales, Torfaen Tenovus Mobile Cancer Support Unit and Torfaen and District Multiple Sclerosis Society along with the Welsh Charitables’ five charities, St Anne’s Hospice, Welsh Rugby Former International Players Benevolent Association, Ty Hafan the family hospice for young lives, the Prince’s Trust Cymru and St David’s Foundation Hospice Care.
