A man aiming to represent Wales in the next Commonwealth Games and Team GB in the next Olympic Games is being supported by a Cwmbran business.
Rhys Price, aged 24, who lives in Abercarn but is originally from Usk, is one of the UK's top skeet shooters.
He equaled the British record of 147 out of 150 shots in 2012. In 2010 he flew to India to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games.
Robbie Evans, from Cwmbran-based haulage firm Bridgetime Transport met Rhys tonight in CS Sporting in Ty-Coch to present him with 500 cartridges and a new skeet vest.
Robbie said: “We've helped out teams in the past but never an individual. When you're on your own it is much harder to get support. Rhys is a great young man with a bright future ahead of him. Hopefully this will encourage other businesses to look at backing individual sportsmen and women.”
Rhys said: “My ambition for the next year is to consolidate my position in Team GB. This would then give me access to top flight competition on the World Olympic skeet scene. Regular competition at this level would then leave me in a good position for medal success at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and beyond.”
He is on the Sport Wales elite performance programme. This means he is part of the schedule for training and competition to aim for Team GB selection and the Commonwealth Games.
Rhys trains at South Wales 2000 shooting ground by kind permission of Mike and Margaret Amedeo.
