Torfaen Council received 13 complaints about illegal dog breeding in the last six months of 2021/22.

The information was reported in a report to the council’s licensing panel about the work of the team from October 2021 to March 2022.

The team followed up on every complaint and gave written advice and guidance. Warning letters were sent to any individuals who the team felt had met the criteria where they should be licensed and were breeding dogs without permission.

Two individuals refuted the allegations and requested a home visit from the licensing officer. The team has also worked with trading standards and the council tax team to get details of residents where dog breeding is alleged to have taken place.
