A Griffithstown dance and drama studio has spaces for new members and is starting to rehearse for not one, but two musicals being held at the Congress Theatre in 2027.
Vibe Studios was set up by Naomi McDonnell and Katie Vallis in 2010 after they both worked in musical theatre.
New members can join from September, just as preparations for putting on ‘Into the Woods’ and The Little Mermaid’ get underway.
Kate said: “We have known each other since we were 11 years old and met because of our love of performing. We are both Griffithstown girls. Although our careers took us in separate paths initially. I moved to London and went to The Royal Academy of Music after finishing at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and Naomi moved to Northampton and studied there and in Hitchin.
‘New friends’
“We initially wanted to create something that was affordable for families and create a safe space where everyone was welcome. Over the past 16 years we’ve created lots of classes at the studio, [including] dance, performing arts, vibe singers ( adult choir), drama classes, and adult dance classes. We have students from aged three to adults.
“It’s a wonderful way to meet new friends.”
The group put on Seussical JR at the Congress Theatre in March, with Katie saying it was a “huge success,” so plans started for more shows. They will work on the two new productions at the same time.
Katie added: “It’s always been our passion and sometimes it’s been difficult- especially still running the business online over Covid times, but we are blessed with wonderful families and students and each other really.
“There’s a booking system for the auditions (Sunday 16 August) if people would like to go for a main role, but if they would just like to take part, then it’s open to all.”
