VIDEO: Poppy Appeal launches in Cwmbran: Appeal for volunteers to sell poppies

The organiser of the Poppy Appeal in Cwmbran has appealed for volunteers to sell poppies.

The annual Royal British Legions fundraising campaign was launched in Cwmbran town centre this morning. Lord-Lieutenant of Gwent Brigadier Robert Aitken CBE opened the appeal following a speech by Reverend Harald Thomas. Musicians from Cwmbran Brass Band played at the event in Monmouth Walk.

Martin Davies, Poppy Appeal organiser for Cwmbran, said “Without our Poppy seller volunteers we wouldn’t be able to continue supporting serving and ex-serving men and women, and their families. If you have a morning, afternoon or more free over this coming week please contact me on 07887 947177.”

Torfaen MP Nick Thomas-Symonds was at the launch. He said: “The launching of the Royal British Legion’s Annual Poppy Appeal is always a moving occasion in Torfaen. Our borough has a long and proud tradition of service and today gives us the opportunity to take a moment to think of all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. It is also a powerful reminder of our deep debt of gratitude to our Armed Forces Families and the need to support all our veterans.”
